The Interview: Cancelled

2:24 PM

On Christmas Day a comedy movie featuring Seth Rogen and James Franco was going to release.
The movie involves a lot of content in regards to North Korea which apparently they didn't approve of. So they decided to hack Sony and also pose a terrorist threat against them if they release the movie. Sony cancelled the movie and fans are angry.

In most situations I try to see both sides of the spectrum to justify the reasoning for why decisions were made. So from the perspective of a fan looking forward to seeing the movie I am frustrated and disappointed because over $40 million went into that movie and not only are fans and paying customers denied the option to enjoy some entertainment, the entertainment industry has to eat it and move on. From a company perspective it really sucks losing out on all of that money and from an actor perspective, a lot of time was devoted to something that is being scratched. I'm sure this isn't the first time that this has happened to a movie. I know that it has happened to plenty of video games in the past. From an outside country's perspective, I can imagine that it would be frustrating or offensive if  another country portrays your country incorrectly or makes your country look bad. Nobody likes it when someone insults their mother, so insulting your country is bad, too. In the US we have the freedom of speech. We can say offensive things and do things that ignore others beliefs and ways of living because of the constitution. However, other countries don't abide by our laws or beliefs. With that being said, I don't think other countries should have any say in what a creator in the US creates for the US. Yes movies are shared world wide in theatres but if it's that offensive then just restrict what platforms it is viewable on or ban it from the country that took offense to it. That sounds easier said than done because in our lifetime we have things called terrorists. When something happens or when something is said that someone else doesn't like instead of manning up and walking it off we have to throw bombs and death threats and other malicious acts of violence in front of their faces in hopes to manipulate and control them to do what we want them to do or to try and coax them to NOT do what they are about to do. North Korea did exactly that by posing a terrorist threat if the movie is released. With that being sad, as a person who was excited to see the movie, watching that movie is not worth dying over. It's not worth my friends and family dying over or anyone in my country or another country. It's not worth those actors and producers and directors lives for the sake of content creation. Yes succumbing to an enemies request and admitting defeat is not the happiest of things to acknowledge but being alive is more important than a movie. Say they weren't serious about attacking us they just said it out of anger and the movie is released and nothing happens and we're all okay and we enjoy the movie, that's possible. However, the threat of a terrorist attack is simply just not worth it. So from a company perspective we can either listen to them and put the movie down to ensure the safety of our country or we can be ignorant and release the movie and jeopardize everyone. Who wants to be the asshole that presses the red button that you aren't supposed to press, only to realize that the button makes us go boom. Think of how many families would sue Sony for being reckless with peoples lives all to make a couple million off of the movie they made. What are our lives worth?

It's pretty sad that the world is so ignorant and stuck up on itself that if one person decides to do something that goes against another thing we have to resort to violence to get our way. It's sad that a country is SO terrified of their image being distorted that they have to threaten to kill people over a fucking movie. People make fun of other people in movies, tv shows, cartoons, books etc... all the time. So why should a movie be any different? There are political cartoons and tv shows and news broadcasts every day about our allies and enemies for all sorts of things and you don't see a war starting over it.

So you have to think... if North Korea is threatened THAT MUCH that they need to threaten the US for releasing a movie then perhaps they have something to hide. Perhaps they brainwash their citizens SO much that if the wrong idea gets out then their image will look bad or they'll start a revolution or something along those lines. I've heard plenty of stories about how rough life is in North Korea. A lot of people don't escape that country and make it out alive. There was a photographer who went over  there and took pictures and released them on the internet (or they may have been leaked) but the content consisted of a lot of graphic material and things you'd expect to see in a third world country. A lot of photos were illegally taken thus the photographer is banned from the country. If you have to deny people the option to photograph certain things and events then how weak are you? How far do you need to go to block out SO much in order to maintain something so petty and insignificant.

Instead of threatening other countries over a movie, perhaps you should feed the children in your country. Perhaps you should upgrade your society by spreading the wealth and giving your citizens a decent life. Children shouldn't be subjected to eating tree bark their entire life so that their country's leader can sip on champagne while the mothers die in starvation. It's almost 2015 and we still can't get over equality and human rights. Can we honestly just grow up?

I think a country who is open minded and willing to create and share and provide for their people is  stronger, more efficient and more valuable than a country who reduces itself to restriction of content and media sharing along with providing basic necessities to its people and also providing a great example or vision within its government and military.

Nobody is perfect. Especially the US. We have many flaws. We've made many horrible decisions. We're also not all responsible for things that happened in the past. But we can prevent things from happening NOW and in the FUTURE. We can grow as a country, as a world, as a race. One day I'd like to see people living daily on other planets or on space ships and outer space resorts. I'd like to say that we finally got our shit together and we were able to focus on serious issues rather than petty things like threatening to kill people over a fucking movie.

But again, if that's the case. If a movie is what it takes to piss in someone's cheerios to the point where a whole country could be dead the next day, then I guess that movie should be put to rest. I also think the country who got pissed off should be reformed. I think that the leaders need to grow up and change their outlook and strategy on life and action. And this my fellow readers, is how a war starts. Someone pisses someone else off enough to require them to step into their country. Many people on both sides will die but hopefully the good guys make positive change for the progression of equal rights, human rights and above all... love and happiness.

So rather than hating on North Korea, all I can simply do is pray that they do not make any decisions that they will regret. I hope that they can step back and look at how childish they are because their e-peen shrivels at the thought of someone portraying them differently than how they wish to be. Not everyone will like everyone or everything. For example, a lot of people hate the President Obama. I personally feel indifferent. I will admit that I voted for him but I don't see him as a horrible person like some people make him out to be. One dude has to deal with all of the bullshit that the rest of society just sits on their ass and bitches about instead of being the one to take a stand. Every day people shit on him verbally. Every day he is bombarded with this and that and people trying to kill him or hack the government or endanger his family and staff. But does he crumble and walk away and say "yolo screw this?" No. He puts on his suit and tie, mans the fuck up and does his job.

So if you were an angry or disappointed fan of the movie, I understand your feels. But our lives are more important than few lulz. I'm just really disappointed in North Korea and how they act. I'm so glad South Korea has bigger brains than they do. LOL.
